Performing Arts

Pinecliffe offers a variety of opportunities within the performing arts, encompassing drama, dance, and music.

Drama is an exciting part of the Pinecliffe program, and each age group produces its own play or musical. We encourage every camper to participate, whether it’s on the stage or helping with scenery and costume design.

Our dance program (offered as both a regularly scheduled activity and an elective) is also a favorite among campers, emphasizing not only traditional styles, but also hip-hop and modern dance. Our dance team participates annually in an invitational inter-camp dance competition.

The Jungle Revue

One highlight of every summer is The Jungle Revue — an entirely original themed production performed by our 14-year-olds, the Jungle. “JR” is a highly anticipated event that is performed for both campers and parents every Visiting Day Weekend, and allows campers to highlight their singing, dancing, and performance skills!

Singing

Singing is also an integral part of life at camp, and campers have many opportunities to join in chorus together — whether they are at assembly, banquet, campfire, or a team competition. Older campers take pride in passing along camp songs to the younger generations, and some of the songs the girls sing are nearly as old as camp itself. The proliferation of these songs through the ages truly is remarkable, and during Visiting Days and reunions we oftentimes see alumni who graduated from camp a half-century before singing the same songs and cheers that our girls enjoy today. One of the highlights every summer is the all-camp sing competition between the Brown and Blue teams. During this event — which is entirely organized and driven by campers — each team writes original songs: one for Pinecliffe, one for their Team, and a fight song.

Performers are also welcome to participate in our annual inter-camp A Cappella competition and inter-camp dance team, which participate in competitions during the summer.
